ABOUT SMITH & LEN

Smith & Len is a natural dye house located in the San Joaquin Valley of California. They focus on sustainably dyeing everyday goods with dyes created from plants, flowers, vegetables, and even bugs. Giving back to the community is part of their mission statement. A portion of each purchase is donated to a chosen non-profit.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Brooke Luallen is the owner and artist behind SMITH & LEN. She is a local artisan of Fresno, California, who has fallen in love with natural dyes. Brooke has discovered how nature can create beauty within your everyday life by extracting dyes from plants and flowers from her backyard and food waste from her kitchen. She has many titles: wife, mom of two little ones, art teacher by day, and owner of Smith & Len. She is thrilled to bring the art of natural dyes to the community of the San Joaquin Valley.

WORKSHOPS

Have you ever wanted to learn more about the sustainable practice of natural dye? Or have you wanted to learn how to dye naturally using items from your kitchen, or plants that grow in your own backyard? Brooke often teaches various workshops which include the basics of natural dyeing, shibori, bundle dyeing, and printing. All workshops are announced through our Instagram page.
